Music Biography
The story behind 'the music' in my case, is a little bit different than most I would say, but none the less, it is a story that has changed my life forever.
It all began around 10 years ago when for no particular reason, I found myself having a desire to play the piano again. It had been over 20yrs. since my last childhood lesson and even longer since I could remember having any desire to play at all. I decided to go out and buy an inexpensive keyboard along with some sheet music, in the hopes that I could still remember something from those long lost childhood lessons. As I began to fumble along, I found myself continually gravitating towards a particular atmosphere mode on the keyboard.
Whenever I would play in this mode, I found that I wasn't only playing the music, I was feeling it. It was as if I was becoming temporarily lost in a sea of nostalgic moods and emotions. At first this seemed somewhat unfamiliar, but soon I realized that these were some of the same moods and emotions I would feel as a child, when I would go to my secret 'enchanted' spots and just drift away. A funny thing started to happen though, I noticed that I began not only viewing music from a different perspective, but my whole perception of everything around me changed. I was starting to be more in tune with how things made me feel.
This was a very foreign concept to me at first, but has since become a very integral part of my life.
'The Music' itself actually began one day as I was playing a particular piece by 'Chicago'. It started when I miss hit a series of notes, which unfortunately was not uncommon. I knew I had made a mistake, but strangely, I liked how it sounded, and even more so I liked the emotion(s) it stirred within me. I almost immediately had the overwhelming desire to continue playing in a spontaneous fashion, in the hopes that I may be able to sustain this emotion; allowing myself to stay submerged in it as long as possible. It felt almost like being in the middle of an intoxicating daydream .
I immediately continued to expand upon this "mistake" , it was like putting together a puzzle without having the finished picture to look at. Before I knew it, I had not only written my first song, I had ignited a passion within me that continues to consume me today. I hope in listening to this music, you too can feel some of what I have felt, not only when I created it for the first time, but when I play it time and time again.
